X Ride Review

Does X live up to the hype? After over a year of waiting, I can firmly say YES!

X is unlike any other coaster ever imagined. The sensations felt while navigating the twists, turns, flips, and drops have no words to describe them. Once again Arrow Dynamics has shown the industry that they are on the cutting edge of technology with new innovations.

From the moment you lay eyes on the inside of the station you realize that this is no ordinary coaster. With two separate load and unload sections, this ride requires a large crew to operate. Fourteen lines for the seven rows of cars, seven available for you to choose depending on the side you're on. Standing in line you can see the anticipation on rider's faces as the seats slowly rotate backwards, preparing for dispatch.

X's seats are very comfortable. The butterfly restraints are one of the best designs created, much better than over-the-shoulder harnesses. You thread each of your arms through the restraints like you would a jacket, pull down to lower them to your height, then pull them inward. Lock the seatbelt and you're ready to go! In no way does the restraint hamper your freedom of movement. You can still raise your hands as much as you'd like. Best of all, there is nothing near your head to bang into. The headrest is also generously equipped with some very nice padding.

The seats begin to rotate backwards, then train dispatches backwards, into the turnaround and onto the lift. Once engaging the lift, you are treated to the best view of the park. You will want a camera to capture this spectacular view, but no loose articles are allowed on the ride unfortunately. The view easily matches that of the Sky Tower if not surpassing it since you can see the entire park at once.

As you crest the lift, the motor speeds up to send you over the dip and down the first drop, a 88.5 degree plunge! What makes the drop so terrifying is that you are already looking straight down at the ground moments before you go down the drop, thus regardless of the seat you choose an incredible view of the ground below will be available with no obstructions for a few moments. Then X throws you for a loop and twists your body in another direction, throwing any sense of direction you previously had off.

The rest of the ride must be experienced to be described. I knew every turn and twist that the train would send me thru, yet I was still surprised! The forces placed on you seem to jump out of nowhere and catch you by surprise, yet no roughness is felt along the way. The rotations can be a little bumpy but they in no way make the ride uncomfortable.

To imagine X, you must take everything you already know about coasters and throw it out the window. I would love to compare X to any other coaster but it simply is not possible. Not even the Vekoma Flying Dutchmen create such a unique ride experience.

Six Flags Magic Mountain and Arrow Dynamics have created a huge hit. Hopefully X is just the beginning of this entire new breed of coaster. Good to have you back Arrow!
